ARTIFACT:
This is a circa World War II United States medal grouping for Technical Sergeant T(uffield). T. Patnoe. Patnoe was in Company M, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division. The grouping includes Patnoe's Silver Star and its case, his Purple Heart, his Bronze Star and its case and his Good Conduct medals. Some other ribbons and an embroidered 3rd Infantry shoulder patch are also part of the grouping. Two of the medals are numbered (the Silver Star and the Purple Heart) but not named, and the Silver Star case is named. There is also a period newspaper clipping about Patnoe's 3rd becoming the first infantry division to be awarded the Presidential Citation for its action during the Colmar Pocket Campaign.

Purple Heart: 3" by 1-5/16"; Silver Star: 1-7/16" by 2-5/8"; Good Conduct: 2-3/4" by 1-3/8"; other items are various sizes.
MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION:
Gilt brass, enamel, bronze, silk; fully embroidered shoulder patch in cotton/silk threads; silk; silk-wrapped cardboard.

CONDITION:
8- (Overall Very Fine-Excellent): The medals are in very nice shape; both cases shows spots of wear and the cover of the Silver Star medal's case has come unattached.
