ARTIFACT:
This is a World War II Guidon, or military standard, for the United States Army Company "A" 643rd Tank Destroyer Battalion (self-propelled).
The 643rd was assigned to the European Theatre of Operations in late September 1944, and served in Central Europe, in the Ardennes-Alsace (Battle of the Bulge) and Rhineland campaigns.
The Guidon is black with a mustard colored tank sewn on at its center, and is accompanied by the top and bottom of its pole.
VINTAGE:
Circa mid-late World War II.
SIZE:
Guidon: approximately 19" in height and 25-3/4" in width (foam board is 27-1/4" by 19-3/4"); pole pieces: spade shaped end is a little larger than the bullet end and measures about 6-9/16" by 2-5/16".
MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION:
Muslin on cotton, cotton/silk embroidery, leather, plated brass.
ATTACHMENT:
Leather straps; stitched edge slides over thin pole/stick.

ITEM NOTES:
This Guidon is shrink-wrapped to a piece of foam board. It will be shipped unwrapped and rolled without the foam board, unless arrangements are made for pick-up or special shipping to preserve the shrink wrap mounting. CONDITION:
7+(Very Fine+): The guidon has been well preserved, with some loose stitching at one corner and light fading.
