ARTIFACT: This is a United States 79th Troop Carrier Squadron, 436th Troop Carrier Group, 9th Air Force patch from World War II. The 79th flew C-47s, and on the morning of D-Day dropped the 502nd Airborne and the 82nd Division. They released gliders that same afternoon and again the following morning, and received a distinguished unit citation for their participation. The patch is oval and shows two aircraft being pulled by a mule.

VINTAGE: Circa early World War II.

SIZE: Approximately 3-1/2" in height and 5-3/16" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Fully-embroidered in cotton/silk threads.
