ARTIFACT: This is an early World War II submarine launch badge for the lost boat USS Triton SS-201. Triton was launched on March 25, 1940 from the Portsmouth (NH) Navy Yard. During her sixth and final war patrol, Triton was presumably ganged up on by three Japanese destroyers and downed on or about March 15, 1943. Triton received five battle stars for her World War II service.

VINTAGE: Circa 1940.

SIZE: Approximately 1-3/8" in diameter.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Celluloid-wrapped tin.

ATTACHMENT: Horizontal safety-style pin.

MARKINGS: None.
