Description
This is a beautiful World War I United States Air Service observer jacket named to Roland W. Geary. It has a nice Eisenstadt wing and three stateside stripes. There are also two winged propeller collar insignia, two US insignia and two bars on the shoulder tabs. The jacket has an interior pocket. A 1979 letter from a World War I aviation personnel researcher states that Geary, hailing from Portland, Oregon, entered service in late 191Not much further service information exists: only the record of some places where he trained, including Texas.
VINTAGE:Circa World War I.
SIZE:No size tag. Approximately 18" (armpit to armpit)," 25-1/2" from shoulder seam to end of cuff, 14" across back shoulder to shoulder and about 26" from base of collar to hem.
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Wool with brass buttons, cotton lining, embroidery tape; wing: silver, wool; insignia: plated brass; stripes: wool with embroidery tape; paper.
ATTACHMENT:Buttons, two hook and eye closures at collar; buttons on pockets; buttons on shoulder tabs; pins on insignia; pin with swivel catch on wing.

CONDITION:7 (Very Fine): The jacket has a few very small holes, a hole beneath the left breast pocket, a circular pen mark by pocket (see photo); small tear in lining and some discoloration at armpits; some insignia and wing have areas of tarnishing.
