Description
This is a World War I United States Air Service cap originally belonging to 1st Lieutenant Creagh M. Heydecker, reportedly of the 91st Aero Squadron. Heydecker was a Columbia graduate who served overseas in France with the American Expeditionary Forces from November 6, 1918 until April 16, 191The cap has a single bar and a winged propeller insignia upon the left side. There is a French maker mark inside the lining, as well as oval C, M and H initial plates.
VINTAGE:Circa 1918-1919.
SIZE:No size tag but probably 7 1/2; laid flat (in half) the hat measures roughly 10-7/8" by 5-3/8"; propeller insignia: 1-5/8" by 7/8".
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Wool, leather liner, plated brass insignia.
ATTACHMENT:Bendable prongs on plate.

CONDITION:7+ (Very Fine+): The hat has some small spots of light wear to the outside and the piping with a few loose threads at the top; some spots of moderate wear to the leather liner only.
