Description

ARTIFACT:

This is a World War I United States Marine Corps grouping belonging to William Gregory of Eastern Washington, brought to us by his grandson. The grouping contains three marksman medals, an eagle, globe and anchor pin, a victory medal and a good conduct medal. Also included is a medal made from the ballast of the submarine Deutschland, which docked in Baltimore in July 9th 1916, was scrapped in 1921 and exploded during its dismantling, killing five men.

MARKINGS:

Medal from the Deutschland reads FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE WAR PRISONERS IN SIBERIA on reverse. FIDELITY ZEAL OBEDIENCE is on reverse of Marine Corps medal, and No. 39842 is one side of medal.
