Description

ARTIFACT:

This is a World War I copy of the confidential "Instructions for the Employment of Aerial Observation in Liaison with the Artillery" from the American Aviation Service. The first page is a January 19, 1917 letter from the Headquarters of the American Expeditionary Forces (AEF), that this booklet, adopted and translated from French, was to be the AEF code until further notice. The book includes some illustrations of code symbols and end of the book has two fold-out pages, one with photographs and one with a diagram. This was published in France by the Imprimerie Nationale.

VINTAGE:

Published 1917 (World War I).

SIZE:

40 pages including illustrations plus two fold-out pages. Approximately 7-1/2" in height and 4-1/2" in width.

Stock paper cover, paper.

ATTACHMENT:

Stapled binding.

MARKINGS:

Hard-to-read stamps on cover; 1917.
