Description

ARTIFACT:

This is a World War I German medal bar with the Iron Cross as well as a War Service cross. The bar has two black and white bars and two black, white and orange bars. The Iron Cross medal shows a "W" at center topped by an imperial crown and reads 1914; the War Service medal reads 1914 1918 and shows a laurel wreath with two crossed swords. The cross is marked "Fr" for Friedlander of Berlin.

VINTAGE:

Circa World War I.

SIZE:

3-1/4" height and 2-3/4" width.

CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:

Bar is silk-wrapped paperboard with a felt backing; Iron Cross is plated brass with black paint and the War Service medal is bronzed iron.

ATTACHMENT:

Horizontal pin with come-under "C" swivel catch.

MARKINGS:

"Fr" (Friedlander of Berlin) on Iron Cross ring; War service medal has R.V. 13 PFORZHEIM.
