Description
Wonderful WWII United States Navy Trench Art Shell for USS Core (CVE Ð 13). The USS Core was part of a scourge of U-Boats in the Atlantic that participated in 'hunter-killer' patrols covering moving convoys and was part of Operation Teardrop, "Magic Carpet", as well as carrying aircraft and military personnel to Pearl Harbor in 194The USS Core was decommissioned on October 4, 194The nicely decorated shell art depicts a mermaid with one arm up and the other behind her head who looks to be sitting on the side of the ships rail. The opposing side shows a circle (lifesaving buoy) that reads: "U. S. S. CORE". The base of the shell reads: "11 Ð 1942 A. L. (image of an anchor) LOT 1528 40MM MK .1 (maker mark)".
