ARTIFACT:
This is a Wonderful Circa 1905-1910 Mesa County Colorado Undersheriff Badge By Salt Lake Stamp.
This great old two-tone badge was made by Salt Lake Stamp Company, in neighboring Utah, which started business in 1904, and wears their earliest Maker Mark.
Dating the badge to circa 1905 to 1910, this means that it COULD have been worn by Former Mesa County Sheriff (1898-1902) Charles Wallis, when he served early on as Undersheriff for Sheriff Charles F. Schrader (1908-1914). https://sheriff.mesacounty.us/about-us/history/sheriffs-of-mesa-county/
Whether or not it is Wallis' badge, it is still a beauty, with a gold plated brass badge, and a lovely hand chased Nickel star at center. And it has good size, at approximately: 2-7/8" in height x 1-7/8" in with.
