ARTIFACT:
This is a wonderful 1943 United States Army Air Forces 434th Bomb Squadron, 12th Bomb Group Christmas Card produced for the unit while in Foggia, Italy just before the 12th headed off to the CBI. The front of the card features a winged propeller in the center surrounded by four stars, above it reads: "Christmas Greetings" and below: "434th Squadron 12th Bomb Group UNITED STATES ARMY AIR FORCES". The card is tri-fold, the first inside panel reads: ""Peace on EArth Goodwill toward Men" is only a vision this Christmas of 1943, but it's a Hope that grow brighter with each passing day. As we fly through these dark horizons our course is lighted by His Star. Our Christmas prayer embraces a Hope that its Light will bless you with the Seasons' richest Joy, and that your cherished Dreams of a peaceful, happy Future will soon become a lasting Reality." and is signed: "Buon Natale, Buon Anno, (Best said, "Merry Xmas + Happy New Year") Chas. The bottom corner is stamped: "Europe 1943". The other two inside sections of the card display a beautiful map of the area surrounding the Mediterranean Sea with highlighted areas: Palestine, Egypt, Libya, Cyrenaica, Tripolitania, Tunisia, Malta, Sicily, Algeria, Spain, France, Corsica, Sardinia, Italy, Yugoslavia, Greece, Crete, Turkey, and Bethlehem. The outer tri-fold interior section depicts a B-57 soaring through the air and below it reads: "EARTHQUAKE OVER AFRICA". The reverse shows the 434th Bomb Squadron, 12th Bomb Group
B-25 MTO, CBI insignia and below it reads: "PASSED FOR PUBLICATION BY FIELD PRESS CENSOR".
