ARTIFACT: This is a very rare jacket patch for the United States Civil Air Patrol (CAP) Coastal Patrol Base 17 in Riverhead, New York. The establishment of Coastal Patrol Bases was part of the national response to finding that German saboteurs were successfully landing on US soil: Number 17 was established at Long Island, close to the scene of once such infiltration at Amagansett. The base was active only from August 1942 until August of 1943. The patch is silk-screened on leatherette and shows a very tired cartoon plane wiping his brow at its center.

VINTAGE: Circa World War II.

SIZE: Approximately 3-7/8" in diameter.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Silk-screened on leatherette, cloth backing.

ATTACHMENT: None.

MARKINGS: None.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a United States Army Air Forces collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. VBJJX12 LGGEX9/12

CONDITION: 7+ (Very Fine+): The patch shows some small areas of light to medium wear.

GUARANTEE: As with all my artifacts, this piece is guaranteed to be original, as described.
