ARTIFACT: This is an extremely rare World War II patch for the United States Army 23rd Armored. The 23 is printed rather than embroidered and the patch comes with a separate "Phantom Knights" tab.

Nothing is known about this patch, and it is the only pair I have heard of or seen.

It has been surmised that it has something to do with the Ghost units of WWII, especially since the parent organization of those units was the 23rd Headquarters Special Troops, emphasis on the 23rd.

There is also reference to the Phantom Knights from the 1950s as the HHC, 8th Psychological Operations Group. But this is clearly an Armored rocker, so it is not likely to be related to the Psy Ops Group.

VINTAGE: Circa World War II.

SIZE: Patch: approximately 3-1/2" in height x 3-7/8" in width; Tab: approximately 11/16" in height x 3-7/8" in length.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Fully embroidered in cotton/silk threads with printed number.

ATTACHMENT: To be sewn onto uniform.

MARKINGS: None.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a United States Army collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. VEJX11 LIJJX12/11 HDN10/12 SLABGEX10/19/22

CONDITION: 8- (Very Fine-Excellent): The patch is in very nice condition with only some light wear at the edges. Tab is also in very nice condition, but does appear to have been sewn onto a uniform at one time.

GUARANTEE: As with all my artifacts, this piece is guaranteed to be original, as described.
