Unique 1870s Enameled Maltese Cross Locket for Child Relative of Pour le Merite (Blue Max) Winner

Description
This is a unique circa 1870s gold-filled locket with a blue enameled Maltese Cross. This was possibly meant for the child or grandchild of a Franco-Prussian War (War of 1870) Pour le M??rite (Blue Max) winner. The Pour-le-M??rite was Prussia's highest order of merit, initially given to civilians and military personnel alike, but later restricted only to serving officers. The beautiful oval locket has intricate engraved details on reverse, including a shield, and opens to reveal a purple cloth-lined interior section with a glass plate.
VINTAGE:Circa 1870s.
SIZE:Approximately 13/16" in height and 5/8" in width.
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Gold-filled, enamel, cloth lined, glass.
ATTACHMENT:Hinge, suspension ring.
