ARTIFACT: This beautiful badge is in its original blood red case with blood red velvet and white silk lining. The badge is a style by an unknown manufacturer, shown in Carsten Baldes' Book but only in brass examples: here we have a beautiful gilt .800 silver example, with a lovely presentation engraving on the reverse: O. Hess (the presenter) II Seeflieger Abtlg. W'haven (2nd Seeflieger Abteilung Wilhelmshaven) With the large monogram "RS" below, obviously the initials of the recipient, currently unknown to us. The badge is in a beautiful state of preservation, with light but obvious wear. The "C" catch has been lost through the years, but this does not detract too much. The case shows its age of nearly 100 years with scuffs on the outside and with the white silk inside yellowed to a warm ivory shade. A beautiful example of a Rare badge made more so by being cased and engraved.

VINTAGE: Circa World War I.

SIZE: Approximately 2-13/16" in height and 1-13/16" in width; case: 3-1/2" by 2-11/16" by 15/16".

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Gilt .800 silver, velvet and silk-lined case with brass hinge, catch.

ATTACHMENT: Badge: vertical T-style pin (catch missing); case: hinge and locking catch.

MARKINGS: RS monogram; 800 (silver mark).

ITEM NOTES: This is from a WWI Prussian medal collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. CON-JMB-50-14 L/RetDDIEX5/14
