Description
This is a Belleek New Shell Yellow pattern teapot with their 5th mark (2nd green), dating it to 1955-196Belleek is an Irish company started by entrepreneur and philanthropist John Caldwell Bloomfield in 185He found that the soil of the estate he inherited right after the Potato Famine was rich in pottery-making materials, so he decided to start on this venture in order to employ his hard-hit tenants. He even had the railway diverted to his home of Belleek for importation and exportation purposes. The teapot lid is the topped with a single petite scallop shell, and the pot itself is adorned with larger shells in relief. The handle and spout are in a textured yellow, while the body of the pot is mainly in white biscuit porcelain.
