Description

ARTIFACT:

This is a scarce unofficial Italian Commemorative Cross for the 11th Army (Croce Commemorativa dell'11ยช Armata) from 194This was originally awarded to members of the 11th Army who participated in the October 1940-April 1941 Italian (and Axis) campaign in Greece (Campagna Italiana di Grecia).
In 1943 the award was also bestowed in honor of the soldiers of the 11th Army who died during the Italian campaign in Greece. The cross is enameled in black and has a double-headed Albanian eagle and the arms and knot of Savoy at its center. The reverse reads VEEMENZA E TENACIA (Vehemence and Tenacity) 16 NOVEMBRE 1940 XIX. There is a MORI maker mark at the bottom reverse of the cross.

VINTAGE:

Circa 1942 (World War II).

SIZE:

Approximately 2" in height (including ring) and 1-13/16" in width.

CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:

Gilt-edged, enamel.

ATTACHMENT:

Suspension ring.
