ARTIFACT:
Scarce, Tropical Afrika Korps hat cockade. The Afrika Korps was the German expeditionary force in Africa during WWII. Originally sent as a holding force to shore up the Italian defense of their African colonies, the force fought in Africa from March 1941 until its surrender in May 1943. The German forces in Africa were renowned for their fighting qualities. Many of British whom they fought against were under the impression that it was an elite force, but the Afrika Korps was made up of common German soldiers from the Wehrmacht. They had no special training prior to their arrival in Africa beyond what was usually expected.
