ARTIFACT:
This is a scarce hardcover first edition of "Wake of the Wahoo" by Forest J. Sterling, a crew member of the Wahoo herself. Launched on Valentine's Day 1942, the USS Wahoo (SS-238) sank several Japanese craft and earned six battle stars on her seven war patrols. She was ultimately lost at sea off Japan in late 1943 of a yet undetermined cause. Sterling fortuitously was able to pen this account of some of the Wahoo's successes during her second through sixth war patrols. Right before her last and fatal war patrol, Sterling was transferred off the ship and to Yeoman's School. "Wake of the Wahoo" was published in 1960 by Chilton Company.
