Description
Scarce 1973 Commemorative Issue 1901-1904 Mounties Hat Badge with a great applied Gaunt of London maker mark on the reverse! This badge commemorates the original badges worn by the first incarnation of the Canadian police (North West Mounted Police). Dating back to the period following Queen Victoria's death, the original badge was only in use from about February 1901 until King Edward VII bestowed the title "Royal" upon the Mounties some time in 190This 1973 example shows a bison at center and reads "Maintien le Droit" (Maintain the Right / Defend the Law).

SIZE:Approximately 1-3/4" in height x 1-5/8" in width.
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Gilt brass.
ATTACHMENT:Two loops for cotter pin (no pin).
MARKINGS:GAUNT LONDON applied maker mark.
