Description
Scarce 1960's Guyana Defence Force Officer hat badge in enameled brass. The force has diverse functions for example, the Agriculture Corps grows a portion of its own food and the Ordinance Corps designs and sews the uniforms, the Air Corps is regularly involved in medical flights, and the Engineer Corps constructs roads, bridges, and airstrips. Enlistment into the Force is voluntary for Officers and soldiers and there is no discrimination against women. (information from Guyana's military history webpage). The badge features the national bird, Canje Pheasant in a circle of red enamel surrounded with a green enamel ring that reads: "GUYANA DEFENCE FORCE"
