ARTIFACT: Identified. Rare WWII USAAF Chinese Cadet Advanced Flight School at Luke Field shoulder patch. The United States and China Collaboration during WWII provided training for Chinese pilots in Arizona. The pilots spent 30 weeks at either Thunderbird Field, Marana Army Air Field, or Luke Air Force Base for flight training. Built in 1941 and originally called Litchfield Park Base, Luke Field was located just outside Phoenix and nicknamed the "Home of the Fighter Pilot." The field earned this nickname during WWII, when it was the largest fighter pilot training base in the USAAF. The first Advanced Flight Training class graduated in 1941 and in total, Luke Field trained and graduated more than 12,000 fighter pilots from advanced and operational courses. Luke Air Force Base continues in operation today. The patch features gold, feather detailed wings, at the center top is a Chinese sun, in blue and white and beneath a shield of blue with a yellow stripe down the middle and an outer border of red. THE PHOTOS ARE NOT PART OF SALE - THEY ARE INCLUDED IN THE LISTING FOR HISTORICAL REFERENCE.
