ARTIFACT:
This is a rare World War II United States Army Air Forces 39th Troop Carrier Squadron, 317th Troop Carrier Group, 5th Air Force "Jungle Skippers" distinctive insignia. The Jungle Skippers were made up of the 39th, 40th, 41st and 46th Troop Carrier Squadrons of the 317th, which was attached to the 5th Air Force. Activated in July 1942, these squadrons served in the South West Pacific Area of Operations (SWPA), safely transporting troops and materiel between Australia and New Guinea. The DI is beautifully enameled in cobalt blue and shows a flying Conestoga wagon.

Circa World War II.

Approximately 1-1/4" in diameter.
MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION:
Gilt brass, enamel.
ATTACHMENT:
Vertical pin on bar, come-under swivel locking catch.
