ARTIFACT:
Rare WWII Twenty-Nine PALMS Air Academy Condor Field, United States Army Air Forces Glider Pilot training shirt with wing and patch. Training began in January of 1942 at Condor Field. The goal was to train 150 officers to serve as glider pilots, the course was four weeks long and each pilot was required to complete at least 30 hours of flight time. Glider pilots participated in every theater of the war, notably during the D-Day invasion, with the final glider mission taking place in the Philippines in 1945. This shirt displays a round blue satin patch that reads: "CONDOR FIELD ??? TWENTY NINE PALMS" in paint and velvet detail and below is an embroidered gold winged patch with the letters "TAA" displayed in the center in red.

Approximately 21" (armpit to armpit), 17" (across back shoulder to shoulder), 24" from shoulder seam to end of cuff and about 31" from base of collar to bottom of waistband, neck is 14 ??".
MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION:
Heavy cotton, silk, paint, velvet, silk/cotton/polyester threads, buttons.

ITEM NOTES:
This is from a collection of USAAF items which we will be listing more of over the next few months. VCJJX12 LFGEX1/15 TRDEJX5/16
CONDITION:
8+ (Excellent): Minor spots of foxing on shoulder, front pocket, and cuff. Small spot of soiling on cuff (see photos). Shirt is in overall excellent condition.
