ARTIFACT: This is a rare World War II instructor wing from Shaw Aircraft Company (box not included for sale). "From 1939 to 1944, Shaw and his flight instructors trained over 2,500 pilots, first under the auspices of the Civilian Aeronautics Authority (CAA) and its Civilian Pilot Training Program (CPTP), in conjunction with the University of Iowa's College of Engineering. Shaw and his 22 Flight Instructors, four flight supervisors, four mechanics, five linemen, five office workers -- and 41 aircraft -- took care of flight training, while the College of Engineering ran the aeronautical ground school." This information is from the 1985 book "Early Flying in Iowa" by Paul Shaw, who founded Shaw Aircraft Company and also ran the Iowa City, Iowa Airport Fixed Base Operator during these critical years. The photos of the box are only to show the supplier (Karl Ort of Pennsylvania) and vintage of the wing: we do not have the box available for sale. The wing has a delicately etched letter S at its center, that almost resembles a swan.

VINTAGE: Circa World War II.

SIZE: Approximately 11/16" in height and 3-5/16" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Gold-plated brass.

ATTACHMENT: Horizontal pin with come-under locking swivel catch.

MARKINGS: No markings: supplier of wing is Karl Ort of Pennsylvania. This information is shown from the photos of the box, but the box is not for sale with this wing.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a civil aviation collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. VBEJX09 LEGEX6/12 TrEGEX11/13

CONDITION: 8 (Excellent-): The wing has only light wear and a beautiful shine.

GUARANTEE: As with all my artifacts, this piece is guaranteed to be original, as described.
