Description
Rare WWII Nazi BDM (Bund Deutscher Mädel League of German Girls) Achievement badge. The BDM was the female faction of the Hitler Youth. During WWII, the girls volunteered as nurses' aides at hospitals, to offer soldiers and refugees help at train stations. After 1943, Allied forces increased air attacks on German cities and as a result, many BDM girls went into military services/organizations. There the girls served as 'Flak Helpers', signals auxiliaries, searchlight operators, and office staff. History shows that most girls did not take part in fighting and many did not use weaponry, although some Flak Helferinnen operated anti-aircraft guns. The badge is in the shape of a rectangle and reads: "BDM" with a red and white striped silk ribbon beneath. The reverse reads: "M1/15", "RZV", "B".
