ARTIFACT:

This is a rare World War I German zeppelin relic: this is skin from the L-49, the first zeppelin to be shot down in France in October 191This height climber ship was brought down and salvaged in great condition.

VINTAGE:

Circa World War I.

SIZE:

2-1/4" length by 3-5/8" width (measurements as stapled in photo).

CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:

Painted cloth zeppelin fabric.

ATTACHMENT:

Two pieces have been stapled together.

MARKINGS:

Period handwritten message on front: FROM THE L49, FIRST GERMAN ZEP EVER BROUGHT DOWN IN FRANCE.

CONDITION:

7- (Very Fine-): Skin is creased in a few spots and shows spots of moderate wear.
