Description

ARTIFACT:

This is a rare late World War II foil submarine launch tag for USS Volador SS 490, whose keel was laid down on June 15, 1945 at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. Work on the submarine came to a halt in January of the next year but resumed, with some technological upgrades, in 194She was launched May 21, 1948.

VINTAGE:

Circa late World War II.

SIZE:

Approximately 1-3/4 in diameter and 6" in length (including string).

CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:

Printed silver foil paper and cardboard with silk string.

ATTACHMENT:

Punched hole with string.

MARKINGS:

None.

ITEM NOTES:
