Description
ARTIFACT:
Nearly identical to the more commonly seen CPT Enlisted Reserve (Program Graduation) wing, this War Training Service flight school graduation wing made by Danecraft dates from early WWII after the organizational name change (to War Training Service), but before the issuance of the wing was discontinued, circa 1942.
This wing was made taking the more commonly seen wing (but with a more rare style of Danecraft Maker Mark!) and having the area where CPT (For Civilian Pilot Training) planed off, and soldering in a panel with the initials of the CPT successor: War Training Service (or WTS) in its place. It is extremely well done, and hard to tell if a quantity of these wings were sent to a jeweler for the modification after the 1942 organizational change, or if the wings were sent back to Danecraft for the modification. In any event, the wing is extremely rare, as it is the only one I have seen, and when conferring with collectors of WWII Pilot Training, I have found none who have encountered one before.
