ARTIFACT:

This is a beautiful and rare late Boer War period slouch hat badge for C Squadron, 4th County of London (aka "King's Colonials") Imperial Yeomanry. The original cavalry unit had originated around 1745, but the "Kings' Colonials" specifically formed in 1901 when much-needed volunteers were engaged from around the British Empire to join the Boer War. The badge reads AUSTRALASIAN, the term used to refer to the squadron's joint force of Australians and New Zealanders. The badge has a wonderful sunburst design and shows a kangaroo romping through the bush.
