Description

ARTIFACT:

This is a wonderful and rare bronze participant medal on a ribbon for the 1934 Deutsche Kampfspiele (German Sports Contests). Upon receiving no invitation to the 1920 Olympics, Germany developed the Kampfspiele as their national answer to the ancient games. The reverse of the medal resembles a zodiac, with twelve small panels at the border depicting the various athletic events. At the center are the coat of arms of six German cities: Mainz, München (Munich), Hamburg, Nürnberg (Nuremberg), Kiel and Halle.

VINTAGE:

Circa 1934.

SIZE:

Medal: approximately 3-1/8" in diameter and 3/16" in thickness; ribbon: approximately 7/8" in width by 29" in total length.

CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:

Bronze, silk ribbon.

ATTACHMENT:

Sewn ribbon, suspension ring.
