ARTIFACT: This is a rare circa 1930s Romanian Order of Aeronautical Virtue (Medalia "Virtutea Aeronautica"), Officer's Cross. It was awarded sparingly to heroic World War I aviators during periods of peacetime. The medal is in beautifully enameled and gilt silver, and is shaped as a cross with wings replacing the two horizontal arms. The center is a crest bearing the back-to-back double "C" cypher of King Carol II, who ruled Romania from 1930 until 1940, when he went into exile in Mexico, and later, Portugal. The medal hangs from a gold, blue and white striped silk ribbon.

VINTAGE: Circa 1930s.

SIZE: Approximately 5-3/4" in height (including whole ribbon) and 1-11/16" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Gilt and enameled silver; silk.

ATTACHMENT: Suspension ring, ribbon.

MARKINGS: None.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a pre-WWII Romanian medal collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. MDJJX14 LABGEX3/14

CONDITION: 8 (Excellent-): The medal is in beautiful condition.

GUARANTEE: As with all my artifacts, this piece is guaranteed to be original, as described.
