Description
This is a rare circa 1930s Romanian Order of Aeronautical Virtue (Medalia "Virtutea Aeronautica"), Officer's Cross. It was awarded sparingly to heroic World War I aviators during periods of peacetime. The medal is in beautifully enameled and gilt silver, and is shaped as a cross with wings replacing the two horizontal arms. The center is a crest bearing the back-to-back double "C" cypher of King Carol II, who ruled Romania from 1930 until 1940, when he went into exile in Mexico, and later, Portugal. The medal hangs from a gold, blue and white striped silk ribbon.
