ARTIFACT: This is a rare 1918 sponsoring camp badge for the 23rd reunion of the Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV), which coincided with the 28th reunion of the United Confederate Veterans. Formed in 1896 and still active today, the SCV is made up of men whose ancestors served honorably for the Confederate armed forces. The reunions that year were held at Tulsa, Oklahoma. The camp was named for Cherokee leader and subsequent Confederate general Stand Watie, the only Native American to ever hold that rank with either the Confederate or United States Army. The bronze badge has a great design showing oil wells, a flag, an eagle and an Indian head in relief. It was made by Whitehead & Hoag of Newark, New Jersey and has a maker label still affixed to the reverse. This badge came to us along with some other items from the 1918 reunion, all from the same unnamed veteran (sold separately: please see link at bottom of page for more information).

VINTAGE: Circa 1918.

SIZE: Approximately 4-1/2" in height and 1-3/4" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Bronze, brass, silk.

ATTACHMENT: Horizontal safety-style pin on bar.

MARKINGS: WHITEHEAD & HOAG CO. NEWARK manufacturer label on reverse.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a Confederate Veteran reunion collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. MBEX13 LDGEX9/13 SDGEX5/16

CONDITION: 8- (Very Fine-Excellent): The badge some light wear only.

GUARANTEE: As with all my artifacts, this piece is guaranteed to be original, as described.
