ARTIFACT:
This is a Rare Paul I Bronze Medal Honoring Count Alexander Vasilyevich Suvorov from 1799, by C.H. Kuchler at the Soho Mint. 48mm. The obverse features a striking 2-dimesional bust Count Alexander Vasilyevich Suvorov, facing right. The reverse shows a Romanesque Soldier at center, a fallen French soldier at left, and Italia seated at right, given the hand of the soldier to help her rise to her Glory. Bold relief with reddish-brown patina over mirrored fields. This very elusive medal was issued to commemorate the victory of Russian forces, led by Suvorov, over the French, in Italy.
