Description
This is a pre - 1960 Navajo Tribal Police badge, although we are still researching its authenticity. The badge is definitely hand-tooled out of copper in the traditional Navajo Dine' style. Now known as the Navajo Nation Police, the tribal police was re-founded in 1959 after a decades-long hiatus. This badge could easily be something from circa 1960 that was worn, or something that was given out as a souvenir to VIPs when the agency was founded. Or, it might have been worn before the re-founding of the Tribal Police in 1959.
