ARTIFACT: This is a pair of shoulder boards from the Mexican-American War era. The boards are quite imposing, even with age: a horseshoe-shaped fixture at the base of each board allows a mass of coils to cascade over the shoulder.

VINTAGE: Circa late 1840's.

SIZE: Approximately 9-5/8" in height and 7" in width and 2-1/4" in depth (each board).

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Textured cotton, wood, bullion threads, wire spring coils, twine, silk ribbon and backing, wool padding, cardboard backing.

ATTACHMENT: Ribbon with twine.

CONDITION: 6+ (Fine-Very Fine): Shoulder boards have moderate to heavy soiling and tarnish but everything is intact.
