ARTIFACT:
This is a numbered World War I United States Boys' Working Reserve badge. According to an old Indiana Board of Education booklet, the reserve was an "enrolled army of patriotic volunteer youths between the ages of sixteen and twenty-one years, organized under the United States Department of Labor, to help the nation on the farm and in the factory to win the war. Every boy who is physically fit, who is of proper age, is eligible for this non-military civilian army." The badge shows the Great Seal at center and is numbered below.

Circa World War I.
SIZE:
Approximately 1-9/16" in height and 1-9/16" in width.
MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION:
Plated brass.
ATTACHMENT:
Horizontal safety-style pin with rectangular saddle and two small holes.
MARKINGS:
72342 on front and W&H CO. NEWARK N.J. and union mark on reverse.
