ARTIFACT: This is a beautiful World War II "Carlson's Raiders" United States Marine Corps type combat knife by Collins & Company. "Carlson's Raiders" was the familiar name of the 2nd Raider Battalion, a group that landed on the Pacific island of Butaritari (former home of Louis Robert Stevenson) in August 1942. The knife appears to have been used in combat.

VINTAGE: Circa World War II.

SIZE: Approximately 14-1/4" in length and 4-3/8" in width (at widest part of handle).

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Steel, nickel-plated steel, resin handle, leather sheath.

ATTACHMENT: None.

MARKINGS: COLLINS & CO. LEGITIMUS 13 with maker's mark on sheath; COLLINS & CO. LEGITIMUS MADE IN U.S.A. NO. 18 with maker's mark on blade.
