ARTIFACT:
Classic & Iconic Old West 1890's San Antonio Texas City Police Badge. This huge "City Police" badge is known to most students of Lawman Badge Collecting as the iconic badge worn in the late 1800's (and into the early 1900's) by the San Antonio Police Department. No Western Lawman Badge Collection would be complete without this badge! I have not had one to offer in a decade or more, as they are mostly tucked away deep in collections, as this one has been for the last decade or so. Great wear from years of use, and a forked catch pin. These 1880's-90's badges were refurbished and re-used up until the 1910's or 1920's. This badge had its pin and catch replaced during the period of use, and was probably re-nickeled and the lettering & numbers repainted.This badge has some interesting scratches on the back, one might be a date, but I cannot make them out.
