ARTIFACT: This is a mint World War II jacket patch for the United States Army Air Forces 398th Bomb Group, 8th Air Force, including Squadrons 600 through 603. The 398th was active from March 1, 1943 until September 1, 1945 and flew B-17 bombers. The group participated in many maneuvers, including the D-Day invasion and the attack on Derben, Germany. This patch is the identification logo for all squadrons of the 398th, known as "Hell from Heaven". The patch is inked upon embossed leather.

VINTAGE: Circa World War II.

SIZE: Approximately 4-5/8" in height and 4" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Inked upon embossed leather.


MARKINGS: 398th GROUP BOMBARDMENT written on reverse.
