Description
This is a beautiful 1890s watercolor by Cornelia "Nel" Chapin Moodey of Maine. The painting shows a wooded area in the center of which appears a fountain borne upon the heads of rearing horses. From a tag attached to the reverse of the painting by one of Moodey's descendant's, it was rare for her to sign the painting as she did: NCM. Usually she would have signed in C.C.M. The painting has a lovely gilt matting and is in a period frame done by a Massachusetts framer.
