Description

ARTIFACT:

This is a Later 19th Century Spanish Royal & Military Order of Saint Hermenegild Cross in Enameled 22K & 20K Gold. The ribbon is not present. The Royal and Military Order of Saint Hermenegild is a military distinction of the Spanish Cavalry created by Ferdinand VII of Spain at the conclusion of the Spanish War of Independence in 1814.

The badge of the order is a 20K Gold, white enameled Cross Pattee, surmounted by a 22K gold Royal Crown. The central medallion bears an effigy of St. Hermenegild on a horseback, surrounded by a blue ring inscribed "PREMIO A LA CONSTANCIA MILITAR" (reward for long military service). On the reverse there is the royal cypher of Fernando VII.

Approximately 2-3/8" in height x 1-1/4" in width.

Enameled 20K Gold & 22K Gold.

CONDITION:

8 (Excellent-): The medal has some light wear, and 2 hairlines at 3 o'clock on reverse. Overall, it is in excellent condition.
