ARTIFACT:
This is a late 1950s pilot hat badge for Western Airlines, which began in 1926 as Western Air Express and later merged with Transcontinental to become TWA in 1930. At this time, a portion of the company called Western Air Transport broke away, eventually becoming General Airlines and later WAL (then simply Western Airlines). The badge shows the head of a Native American man at the center of a wing and reads WAL above.
VINTAGE:
Circa late 1950s.
SIZE:
Approximately 1-15/16" in height and 1-7/8" in width.
MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION:
Gilt brass.
ATTACHMENT:
Single screw post with disc backing.
