ARTIFACT:
This incredibly huge wing has to be seen to be believed! Pictures do not do it justice, even though we have included one image next to a regular WWII pilot wing.
Probably worn in the California Bay Area, the wing is marked SHELOW, presumably for San Francisco Jeweler Henry F. Shelow. The large and heavy wing was cast in 3 pieces, the CPT being an integral part of the die of the central shield.
This wing weighs in at an incredible 28.3 pennyweight, or almost 1.5 Troy Ounces!
VINTAGE:
Circa WWII.
SIZE:
Approximately 3-1/4" in width x 13/16" in height.
MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION:
Sterling silver with a gold wash.
ATTACHMENT:
Horizontal pin with drop-in locking catch.
MARKINGS:
"SHELOW"
ITEM NOTES:
This is from a WWII Civilian Air Transport Command wing collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. VBICM20 LIGEX10/28/20 SIGEX08/29/21
CONDITION:
8 (Excellent): The wing shows minor to moderate wear, and some tarnish on reverse, overall excellent condition.
GUARANTEE: As with all my artifacts, this piece is guaranteed to be original, as described.
