ARTIFACT:

This is a beautiful, rare 1947-48 Ceylon Airways / Air Ceylon 1st Issue Pilot Wing with an enameled yellow and red hexagon at center bearing the letters "AC".
Air Ceylon was the former flag carrier airline of Ceylon, which started operations in 1947. The airline had financial troubles in the later 1970's, and finally ceased all operations on 31 August 1979, when it was replaced by Air Lanka, which was eventually rebranded as Sri Lankan Airlines in 1998, and is still in operation today.

VINTAGE: Circa 1947-48.

SIZE: Approximately 3/4" in height x 2-7/16" in length.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Possibly coin silver or silver-plated nickel.

ATTACHMENT: Two loops, cotter pin.

MARKINGS: None.

CONDITION: 8+ (Excellent): The wing has some areas of moderate wear/tarnish; enamel is intact.
