ARTIFACT: This is a Beautiful, Iconic, WWI M1915 Imperial Prussian Navy Aerial Observer Badge in Gilt Bronze by Schaper. Being in bronze, the badge probably dates to late 1916 or early 1917 manufacture. It is believed that Schaper produced all of the early Prussian Naval Aviation badges, and this badge is classic Schaper with the maker marked pin, and the reinforcement loop behind the cross at  top. The C catch appears to have been replaced during the period of use, and with the lovely wear on the obverse of the badge, it is obvious that this Observer spent a lot of time in the air!

VINTAGE: World War I.

SIZE: Approximately 3-1/8" in length x 1-1/4" in height.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Gilt Bronze with gilt nickel pin.

ATTACHMENT: Vertical T-style pin with C catch.

MARKINGS: H.SCHAPER.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a WWI Prussian medal collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. CON-JMB-VCEJJX23 LDGIEX11/05/23 hldSDEJJX11/05/23

CONDITION: 6+ (Fine - Very Fine): An excellent example of this badge, it does have a moderate amount of wear to the gold finish. The badge definitely sports a "Been There" look, and was apparently well-worn, as the owner had to have the open "C" catch replaced sometime during the period of original wear. This repair is well done and does not detract.

GUARANTEE: As with all my artifacts, this piece is guaranteed to be original, as described.
