ARTIFACT:
This is a Great World War II Imperial Japanese Army Soldier's Personal Flag Profusely Signed for Mr Hoshino.
武運長久:Bu Un Cho Kyu:Good luck on the battlefield for a long time. Continued fate as a warrior. The soldiers who have left the country are safe.
祝出征: Blessing for the departure
星野重蔵 君: (who received the Flag) : Mr Shigezo (First name) Hoshino (Family name)
高田信吉: (who presented the Flag to Mr Hoshino) : Nobukichi (First name) Takada (Family name)
I have counted OVER 100 individual signatures. In Japan, each signature counts as a "power", so 100 signature is "One hundred power" which is believed to protect the person who receives the flag.
Probably those who signed the flag were Mr Hoshino's friends & family, neighbors, and people in the same workplace.
This Flag is slightly faded, from being carried during the war. Until, it was no longer needed by Mr. Hoshino, and was acquired by the Marine who brought it home. Sadly, this Marine's name, and the story of his acquisition of Mr. Hoshino's flag are now lost to history. But, Mr. Hoshino's flag will be preserved by us, until a new custodian takes over the ownership and preservation of this poignant artifact of WWII.
