Description

ARTIFACT:

This is a great World War I engraved "trench art" match safe and dog tags originally belonging to a 95th Aero Squadron member, Thomas C. Rice. The match safe reads "Thomas C. Rice 95th Aero Squadron AEF-France" on one side; the other side has an insignia in relief. His pair of dog tags is on their original cotton lace.

VINTAGE:

Circa World War I.

SIZE:

Match safe: approximately 1-5/8" by 2-3/8" by ¾"; dog tags: 1-3/16" in diameter (each).

CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:

Match safe: plated brass, paper cardboard, wood; tags: plated brass, cotton lace.

ATTACHMENT:

Match safe: slides; dog tags: holes, lace.

MARKINGS:

1139088 on each tag.
