Description

ARTIFACT: Great, late 1920’s Dornier Flying Boat tie bar in nickeled, enameled brass. In 1929, Dornier built the large, heavy, and powerful craft in Germany – the project was financed by the German government. The capacity for carrying passengers was so great that during its first passenger flight, it broke a world record which it held it for twenty years. After air debacles and financial trouble, the Dornier Flying Boat was on exhibit until it was destroyed during a RAF air raid during WWII. The center features a model Dornier craft in red, black, and white enamel detail.
